The Marcus Graham Project gave 20 young marketers the opportunity to create a marketing campaign for the Phoenix Suns Charities. Throughout the week my team prepared a presentation for a 3x3 basketball tournament event held at Luke Air Force Base in partnership with the Special Olympics. Our project's name: Charities at Work
I was voted team MVP for the passion I poured into the design portion of our project.
We needed to bring visibility to the charities with this project. First, I was tasked with updating the old logo so I looked at the previous iterations' designs. I pulled the diagonal text from the Mercury logo and the burst graphic from the Suns'. The previous Charities logo had a purple band around the ball, I incorporated that element in a way that's reminiscent of older NBA logos. Naturally, a heart represents the love these organizations pass to the community.
We had to look awesome the day of the presentation! Luckily our mentor was able to print off custom shirts I designed with the new logo on the front. On the backside we adopted the previous tagline: Winning On and off the Court. In the spirit of making plays on and off the court I decided that X's and O's make a fair representation of strategic moves made in the arena and in the streets.
In addition to the shirts I designed for our presentation, I mocked-up custom jerseys for our 3x3 event. These limited edition X and O prints would be raffled off and drive fans to the event. Precedent has shown that Suns fans will go out of their way for special merch. Altogether, our presentation wowed the judges, gave them ideas, and gave me a cool opportunity to create.
